Cardboard Boat Race

VIKING 200 – CARDBOARD BOAT CHALLENGE

Date: Saturday June 28, 2008 (rain date: Sunday, June 29, 2008)

Where: Sundancers Restaurant, 116 Main Street, Rte 28, West Dennis, MA

Time: 9 AM racers registration, 10 AM crowds look at boats; 11 AM & they're off! Let the racing begin!

The Mission: To build a boat out of cardboard, glue, caulking, tape, and paint and race a 200 yard timed course for Fun, Fabulous Prizes, and Coveted Trophies, and perhaps even win the most Coveted Rubber Duckie Trophy. This is a perpetual award that gives the winner (fastest time) the bragging rights for one year to be defended on its anniversary.

Any proceeds will go towards the Dennis Summerfest Fireworks
on West Dennis Beach, August 16, 2008.

Falmouth’s new Farmers’ Market rolls into its second week with a few new arrivals: summer squash, patty pan squash, garlic scapes (garlic flower stems – who knew?), and lobster!

The stars from last week will be here as well: peas (all kinds), strawberries, an assortment of greens, cheeses, wonderful baked goods (sweet and savory), olive oil and potted herb, flower and vegetable plants.

This week’s vendors include:

Salty Lou’s – lobsters fresh off the boat
Tony Andrews Farm – strawberries, rhubarb, English peas, snap peas
Tina’s Terrific Plants – vegetable and flower seedlings and plants
Silverbrook Farm– squash, lettuce, greens, strawberries, herbs, flowers
The Mellis’ Olive Oil and Cheese - Shy Brothers Cheese, Great Hill Blue Cheese, and olive oil direct from Italy
Pies a la Mode – baked goods
Pie in the Sky – bread and coffees roasted right in Woods Hole
